Youth Focus: Young Mens Project
Young men are in crisis.
We lose more young men to suicide than any other cause of death, including road accidents. Unlike road accidents, suicide rates are rising.1
While three-quarters of suicide attempts are made by females, three-quarters of completed suicides are men.2 Men are far less likely to talk about their feelings than women; for most young women at risk there is the chance for intervention. For most young men it will already be too late.
Something has to be done to change our young men's behaviour and get them to be better at asking for help. In 2015/16, Youth Focus and Lotterywest, in collaboration with other mental health organisations, formed The Young Men's Project: a project to address the growing issue of suicide in young men.
