Summary

In 2015, the opioid epidemic was ravaging Tennessee. The CDC ranked Tennessee second in the nation in opioid prescribing and fourth in the nation for overdose deaths, and health insurer BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee covered more than one million opioid prescriptions for its members. Recognizing the issue, BlueCross called on MP&F Public Relations to find a community organization it could partner with to raise awareness about the importance of prevention in the battle against opioid abuse.
