Introduction
This study combines ethnographic and netnographic research methods to investigate how individuals engage with art in the era of selfies and social media. Some scholars have argued that the social media revolution has created a narcissistic, self-absorbed selfie culture (Gnambs & Appel, 2017; Humphreys, 2018). Others have pointed out that social media are no different from other forms of media that people have used throughout history to account for, reflect upon, memorialize, and share their lives, such as cave paintings, photo albums, slide shows, and even personal diaries (Humphreys, 2018; Murray, 2015).
