Brands were over-optimistic on GDPR compliance

An overview of company expected and actual compliance with GDPR across seven European markets and the United States and six major industries.

Businesses across Europe and in the United States are overly optimistic about complying with data privacy regulations, according to the latest research from Capgemini. In their survey of senior executives in June 2019, only 28% said they were compliant with GDPR. This is despite more than three-quarters (78%) expecting to be compliant by the middle of 2018.

Compliance with GDPR was worse in Sweden (18%), Italy (21%) and Spain (21%). The UK (33%) and US (35%) fared better, although only around one-third of businesses were compliant.
