Linear TV consumption is falling across Europe while online content is growing rapidly, according to the latest data from GlobalWebIndex. All 12 markets surveyed saw linear TV consumption decline between 2015 and 2018, down 8.2% on average. In contrast, ten countries registered growing online TV and streaming consumption.
The Netherlands has seen the greatest drop in linear TV consumption over the period, down 13.5%, and is followed closely by Spain and Germany. Ireland recorded the largest increase in time spent watching online TV content, at 61.8%, while the UK and Netherlands both top 40%.
