Netflix adds 10m subscribers and cuts marketing spend to three year low

Netflix added 10.1m paid streaming subscribers in the second quarter of 2020, according to the latest company reports, taking the total level to 192.9m worldwide.

This increase of 5.5% is slower than Q1 2020's rise of 9.4%, with almost the entirety of growth coming in April – suggesting any surge in viewing from COVID-19 was short-lived. The company expects to add 2.5m (+1.3%) more paid subscriptions in Q3 2020, the lowest rate of increase since 2011.

Asia Pacific saw the quickest growth rate, adding 2.7m (+13.4%) subscribers, followed by Latin America up 1.8m (+5.1%). Europe, Middle East and Africa rose...
