Print newspaper purchases drop across Latin America

An overview of print newspaper purchases in Latin America between 2014 and 2018.

Print newspaper purchases are falling in Latin America, according to the latest data from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. Argentina registered the steepest year-on-year drop, falling 4.9 percentage points (pp) from 2017. Brazil and Chile saw drops of 2.0pp and 1.9pp, while Mexico saw a smaller decline of 0.6pp. Global print newspaper purchases fell 2.1pp last year.

Mexico also registered the highest penetration, with 57.1% of adults paying for a print newspaper in 2018. Brazil (39.8%), Argentina (39.6%) and Chile (39.0%) all recorded similar levels of penetration, with home deliverygrowing in importance in...
