Ukraine is an agricultural country. For centuries, Ukrainians have been burning the dry grass in the fields every spring and autumn. People believe that the grass grows better this way, while the fire kills pests and fertilises the soil. However, scientists claim that this custom has no positive impact on the harvest but is instead highly harmful, since it exhausts chernozem and causes wildfires.
