Transport for NSW: How to keep people moving and physically distanced

Transport for NSW (TfNSW), a government agency, conducted behavioural research to unlock behaviour insights to reduce crowding and delays.

The original behavioural challenge

We received a brief from TfNSW asking for help to improve the flow of people on one of Sydney's busiest train lines, in order to reduce crowding and delays. It was the summer of 2019, and a new automated train system running every four minutes was about to launch, doubling the number of passengers at peak times and posing a very real risk of high people density, overcrowding and delays.
