Efficiency gains of IoT hindered by complexity and lack of budget

An overview of the reasons for and challenges in the adoption of Internet of Things technology.

Most businesses are using the Internet of Things (IoT) to drive efficiency and productivity, according to a Microsoft survey of 2,745 large companies who have adopted some form of IoT technology. Optimising operations was the most common reason for adoption, with 56% of adopters listing it.

Improving employee productivity and overall safety and security also proved popular reasons to adopt IoT, according to 47% and 44% of IoT adopters. Two-fifths also reported supply chain management and quality assurance as key motivators.
