Hotel searches record year-on-year growth in March

An overview of global tourism over the last 12 months.

Hotel searches and bookings recorded year-on-year growth in March for the first time since the start of 2020, according to data from the UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) Tourism Recovery Tracker.

Online searches for hotels grew 18% year on year in March 2021 following a collapse in demand over the previous 12 months. Bookings are also up, by 44%.

However, this increase in hotel-related online traffic is not spread evenly across regions. Africa’s traffic has gradually recovered but not enough to return to growth, with the continent at -25% year-on-year hotel searches and -4% hotel bookings. South...
