Mobile internet remains unaffordable in nearly half of markets in Asia Pacific, according to the latest data from the Alliance for Affordable Internet. Across 24 low- and middle-income countries, mobile internet is unaffordable in 11 (45.8%). Affordability is defined as a 1GB mobile internet plan that is 2% or less of average monthly income.
However, among the countries for which yearly data are available, nearly three-quarters (71.4%) saw the cost of mobile data fall between 2017 and 2018. While data unaffordability may limit usage to some extent, mobile consumption in Asia Pacific has recorded continous growth. Regional internet...
