Pickup overtakes ship-to-home for online grocery orders

An overview of the receiving methods used by online grocery shoppers in the United States.

Pickup is now the most common receiving method used for online grocery orders in the United States after overtaking ship-to-home, according to the latest survey from food retail analysts Brick Meets Click and Mercatus.

More than half (53%) of online grocery shoppers used a pickup receiving method in March 2021, above the 49% who used the ship-to-home method.

The value of ship-to-home orders has also fallen, down 6% to an average order value of $49 in March this year. In comparison, the average value for delivery and pickup orders has remained unchanged at $84.
