Tencent gaming revenue has accelerated its growth rate this year as income from advertising shows weaker performance, according to the latest company reports.
Revenue from online games rose 44.8% in the third quarter of 2020, the quickest growth since 2017 and topping ¥40bn for the first time (¥41.4bn). Social network revenue, helped by the game-streaming platform Huya, also rose 28.9%.
Advertising revenue, however, shows a mixed performance. Social advertising grew 20.6% in Q3, to ¥17.8bn, a rate of increase more than half of what was seen in the first three months of the year (+47.4%).
