“Advertising has never been particularly great, for the most part,” confessed Neal Arthur, managing director of Wieden+Kennedy/New York.
And, he argued, the future doesn’t look particularly rosy. “The internet happened; iPhones happened; streaming happened. All those things have ended us up in a space where people don't have to watch our ads anymore. They don't even watch our good ads. And they certainly don't watch our bad ads.
“All of this creates a real paradox for people who are in advertising.”
